Reinforcing Quay Wall with Steel Sheet Piles in Amsterdam

Reinforcing Quay Wall for Bicycle Platform

On Lijnbaansgracht in Amsterdam, near the pop venue and cultural center De Melkweg, work is underway to reinforce the quay wall for a bicycle platform built for more than 500 bicycles, allowing visitors to park their bikes easily. Additionally, a waiting platform is being constructed for visitors of De Melkweg.

The bicycle platform is part of the renovation of Leidseplein. Visitors to Leidseplein, ITA, and De Melkweg can park their bikes on the platform, which is accessible from the Melkweg side and via a bike ramp from the dead-end part of Leidsegracht. The waiting platform will be on the other side of the entrance to De Melkweg.

Reinforcing the Quay Wall

As part of the construction of the bicycle platform, it is necessary to first reinforce the quay wall, as it is in poor condition. This reinforcement is being carried out with steel sheet piles supplied by Gooimeer.

Type: ZZ-36 700

Length: 5.00 – 14.00 meters

Total weight: approx. 100 tons

Execution: May 2024

Location: The work is taking place between Leidsegracht and the International Theater Amsterdam (ITA) building, the former city theater on Leidseplein. From house number 219 to 243.
